Wedding insurance 'important'

Wedding insurance is important as the cost of the 'big day' rises, it is being claimed.

The British Insurance Brokers Association (Biba) maintains couples should consider taking out cover for their wedding day.

According to research conducted by First Choice Travel Shops and Holiday Hypermarkets, the industry group claims more than half of people (57 per cent) would consider getting married abroad, with the biggest reason being to try and stop family feuds from spoiling their day.

The average cost of a UK wedding is almost six times more expensive than one overseas.

Peter Staddon, a spokesman for Biba, said: "Wedding insurance is important. Like all insurance the individuals getting married should sit down and look at the risks they face. They should then evaluate that exposure to estimate the cost."

Research from Sainsbury's Travel revealed 18 per cent of the adult population in the UK booked a last-minute holiday deal last year in order to save money but nearly one in five (19 per cent) did not take out insurance cover.
